Swara and Vyanjanas -

There are 13   Svaras, 33 Vyanjanas and 4 Aayogavaha in Sanskrit language. Svara is also known as Ach- अ च् and Vyanjanas are also known as हल् . Every word in Sanskrit language is formed with the joining of Svara and Vyanjana. E.g. क = क्+अ Amongst the 33 Vyanjanas, 25 are Vargiya Vyanjanas that means they are classified into 5 groups with 5 Vyanjanas in each group.The classification of the Vargiya Vyanjanas is on the basis of the similarity of pronounciation.The remaining 8 Vyanjanas are the special Vyanjanas, as they are unique.   Sparsha Vyanjanas- The first 25 Vyanjanas-consonants are called Sparsha(touch) because articulating them requires some part of the mouth to touch some other. The letters whose place of pronounciation is   Kantha-throat, they are called as Kanthya-Guttural कंठ्य/ ’ क ’ वर्ग   e.g. क् , ख् , ग् , घ्. Basics of Sanskrit language

  Sanskrit is the ancient language which is the mother of all languages. It is also called as the   Devavani/surabharati means, it is the language of Gods. It is also said that the Sanskrit language is generated by God Brahma who passed it to the sages. It is the scientific language. The word Sanskrit literally means refined and elaborated. All the original texts of Ayurveda are in Sanskrit language. Therefore a person, aspiring the   knowledge of Ayurveda should know the basics of Sanskrit.   अविभाज्यो ध्वनि: वर्ण:। This sutra means in the Varnamala-alphabets,   each letter has its unique sound.   One letter one sound, this is a specialty of Sanskrit Language.   Pronunciation of Sanskrit letters, words have a special effect on body, mind and our intellect too. But accurate pronunciation of the Sanskrit letters/words is very important. A very small mistake of pronunciation leads to drastic change in the meaning of original word.
